He began with a trowel and a deadline.

Twenty-five years later the deadlines are larger and the buildings are older. The work has not changed. Find what has value. Recover it. Hand it back better than it came.

Along the way there were companies. Some he founded. Some he was asked to lead. Some he rebuilt from the inside while the work continued around him.

There were community initiatives that never carried his name. There were partnerships that began as a single job and are still standing two decades later.

None of it was a strategy. He was not building a brand. He was building a record.

The record is what people describe when he is not in the room. It is why a family that has not called in nine years still calls him first. It is why the same crews come back.

The House of V is what that record is called now.

I would rather be trusted than known. The work outlives the contract. In time it outlives me. That is the whole point of doing it properly.

Old Town · 2019

Under seventy years of paint, the limestone was sound. We took the paint off.

Riverside · 2021

The timber frame was always the architecture. Everything added since had been hiding it.

The Mason's Wall

The old stone did not need replacing. It needed a mason who could match it.
